SYNOPSIS

A special day of bonding takes a dark and dangerous detour for an 11-year-old boy when his uncle’s violent past dramatically changes both their futures in LUV, a poignant and gritty coming-of-age story featuring standout performances by Common, Danny Glover, Dennis Haysbert, Charles S. Dutton and newcomer Michael Rainey Jr. With his mother in rehab and his father out of the picture, young Woody Watson (Michael Rainey Jr.) lives with his grandmother (Lonette McKee) in suburban Baltimore and longs for his family to be reunited. His charismatic Uncle Vincent (Common) has just returned home after eight years in prison, determined to straighten out his life by opening a high-end crab shack.

One morning, instead of dropping Woody off at school, Vincent decides to give the boy a tutorial on how a man gets things done. After a trip to a tailor to get Woody a customfitted suit, the pair heads to the bank to sign off on the loan Vincent needs to fulfill his dreams. But when a problem with the collateral puts the brakes on Vincent’s plans, his lack of legitimate business experience and his criminal record leave him with no good options. Desperate not to lose his only chance at success, Vincent throws back in with his former associates, convinced that one last score will set him free. With Woody in tow, he plunges into the violent world he thought he had escaped, running a drug deal for his exemployer, Baltimore crime boss Mr. Fish (Dennis Haysbert) and Fish’s brother Arthur (Danny Glover).

In the course of one harrowing day, Woody comes face to face with double-crossing thugs and brutal turf wars, and sees his beloved uncle in a tragic and frightening new light. Ultimately, the boy will have to decide whether to follow his flawed hero…or become his own man.

ABOUT

“Rap is an American art form and it needs respect,” Ice-T said in a recent interview with Hip-Hop Weekly. “I wanted to do a film that makes people totally understand how great it is to me. Rap saved my life. So I called my friends up and asked if they’d be in my movie: ‘I’m not gonna ask you about the money, the cars, the jewelry, the beef. I just wanna ask you about the craft.’ It was a labor of love.”

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, Robert Maillet, James Van Der Beek, Snoop Dogg, Sam Elliot, William Fichtner, Autumn Reeser, Bill Duke, Delroy Lindo

Late one night, Los Angeles private investigator Ned Cruz (Antonio Banderas), gets a visit from a recently paroled Russian boxer Anton ‘The Pro’ Protopov (Robert Maillet). Anton wants Detective Cruz to find Lexie (Sienna Guillary), his missing girlfriend, and the $30m stash of diamonds she’s hiding, and he won’t take no for an answer. As Detective Cruz sets out on a dangerous mission to find her, the clues send him into the city’s seediest corners, from a Hollywood action star (James Van Der Beek) with a dirty little secret, to an enterprising porn producer Puss (Snoop Dogg), who takes a personal interest in his own work, and a kinky waitress with an unusual fetish for particle physics (Autumn Reeser).

Lexie proves to be as elusive as she is beautiful and Cruz becomes obsessed with finding her. With time running out, Cruz discovers the trail leads to reclusive billionaire (Sam Elliot), and his physicist (Jimmi Simpson), intent on recreating The Big Bang underneath the New Mexico desert.

Tailed by a trio of cops also looking to find the missing diamonds, and with the body count piling up, Cruz soon realizes that what appeared to be a standard missing persons case is anything but, and could quite possibly bring about the end of the world as we know it.

Written by Emmy® award-winner Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers), directed and produced by Tony Krantz (Mulholland Drive, 24) and featuring the debut soundtrack from The Smiths’ legend Johnny Marr, THE BIG BANG is a relentless thrill ride from beginning to end.
